Casual Flight Attendant Duties, and Part Time University? What are the chances of success in University?
Q. Hi, I have always been fascinated by the glamour of the Aviation Industry! And shows all about Hosties, make me really want to become one. I was talking to some friends the other day, and they say lots of people do casual work on airlines, and university at the same time. Generaly by distance education. Is there anyone else out there that is doing a similar thing? Or Advice? Would it be worth my while?! Thankyou so much

A. I don't know about the UK, but in the States it can never work. As a new flight attendant, you're at the bottom of the seniority list, therefore you are on call for your assignments. No regular shift. Kind of makes keeping a university schedule impossible. Especially since you might be gone for three or four days, layovers, delays, etc. Perhaps an online college?

What kind of casual shirt to wear with blazer?
Q. I have custom made dress shirts with french cuffs that are monogrammed. Would it look inappropriate to wear one of these shirts (like a light blue) tucked into nice jeans with a nice belt and wear a blazer over it? This will be for out of work, so I want the look to be somewhat casual. Perhaps if I wear more whimsical cuff links rather than professional looking ones? Also, is there ever a reason to wear a shirt (other than a T shirt) untucked when wearing with a blazer?

A. The functional purpose of turned cuffs is to protect the material from fraying...Cuffs may be made by turning back the material, or a separate band of material may be sewn on or worn separately attached by buttons or studs. A cuff may show an ornamental border, or have an addition of lace or other trimming. Having said that... I am rest assured you dont turn back the material... because i believe "An individual's monogram is often a very fancy piece of art for adorning luggage, clothing, and so forth." or for the matter of fact it could just be your loved brand... Now... No it will not be inappropriate to wear one of those shirts... i will prefer T shirts too(since you say its "out of work").. On your whimsical ...MAN(money authority &… [cont.]

Asked by black cherry - Wed May 21 03:26:59 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many people think these are the same, but they are not. Full time, like a "day man" who is also a "third key" is on a regular schedule. Part time, such as a waitress working only the lunch rush, is less than full time and still on a set schedule. Everyone else, because they are scheduled at the manager's discretion from cycle to cycle, is casual. Even if you are scheduled for forty hours and the hours do not replicate from schedule to schedule, it is still casual. Also, because this number of hours is not implied, the amount from week to week can change significantly. You would only check PT if you were willing to commit to a long term, regular schedule. Also, you would parenthesize your availability, (E) (W) or (E&W), in both the… [cont.]

How do I get a job as a casual postal carrier?
Q. I was told the post office isn't having a test for full time mail carriers for a while, but I should look into casual work. My question is: How do I find out if they are hiring casual workers? The post office website never seems to update the job section. SHould I just walk into several post offices in my area and ask the manager? If anyone works for the post office and can give me any info, that would be great!

A. It depends on where you live. If you live in a small town with only one post office I would go in and ask them, if that is not where you apply they should be able to tell you where. If you live in a big city then look in the phone book in the blue government pages. They should have a number listed for employment information. You will get a recorded message telling you what positions they are hiring for and where. At least that is the way it is in my district, but the city I live in is where the Post Office's District offices are located. The country is split up into 90 different Post Office Districts, so each District may have a different method of doing it, I'm not sure. If you don't find anything listed call 1-800-275-8777, they should… [cont.]

My fiance and I are taking casual engagement pictures on the beach, do we have to wear the same color?
Q. I want our pictures to look really casual & candid. Some color photos, some black & white. We were planning to wear clothes that we wear on a regular basis, would it ruin the flow of the pictures if we don't color coordinate?
Asked by my_belovd - Mon Nov 5 10:29:24 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I advise my couples not to wear "matching" outfits but to wear outfits that coordinate in some way. They don't have to be the same color, but think of complimentary colors or pleasing color palettes that you enjoy. The colors should typically be of the same value: one person in bright vivid color and the other in pastels seldom works, for instance. I often encourage seasonal colors to give a sense of time and place: right now, rich browns, reds, gold... the colors of autumn. For a beach shoot, think about the color palette of a beach in autumn... Depending on the weather perhaps a washed out blue for one person and a light brown for the other... So if you're going for casual, matching is a no but coordinating is a yes. Hope this… [cont.]

What to wear to a very casual outdoor wedding?
Q. I'm going to a wedding this Saturday afternoon. It's outdoors and very casual (think men in cowboy hats and boots). I have a periwinkle, high-waisted, flared skirt I'd like to wear, but I'm not sure what to wear with it. It looks cute with a white button-up shirt, but I don't think that's appropriate. Also, the wedding is in the late afternoon and it will likely get cold, so I'll need a cover-up of some sort. I'm planning on wearing flats; not sure what color. Any idea?

A. You did not say what occupation you have. Look at the leaders at your place of work and emulate their styles. Keep a splash of individuality through accessories (jewelry, scarves, etc.) Avoid loud prints but put your favorite color in your outfits - it keeps you upbeat and can give you a bright look overall. I agree with many of the suggestions given - utilize what fits your locale and occupation. Enjoy the networking that conventions can provide.

What casual clothes look best with a kilt?
Q. I won three kilts as of now. One is navy blue, one is black and the other one is a dark green, dark blue and a black plaid. What casual clothes do you think look best with a kilt? I meant to say I have three kilts, not that I won three kilts lol.

A. Many types of casual clothing work well with a kilt. With tartan kilts solid shirts look best. These can be T shirts with boots or sandals, safari shirts with shoes or boots, or dressy shirts. Patterned shirts work well with solid colour kilts, along with all the above. There are several ongoing threads about casual kilting or these 2 kilt forums:

Q. I start my new job tomorrow as a cashier at best buy. Wearing all black shoes and khaki pants is part of the uniform, but as for a top they simply said "something business casual." What does that mean?
Asked by Em - Sat Oct 4 19:34:52 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Could be a button up blouse with a collar, polo shirt, some sort of nice shirt. You don't want to wear the shirt from the last concert, no do you want to wear the shirt you would wear to the formal wedding. You don't need a business jacket. Something nice and clean and "dressy" but not formal!!

Having difficulty finding work in Sydney since the recession? Especially casual teaching work?
Q. I have just graduated from teaching and I have had trouble getting casual work. I am looking to work in special schools across Sydney. I have had experience with students with additional needs. Anyone else having trouble, is it because of the recession?
Asked by Joanne C - Sat May 9 00:19:53 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. My nephew just graduated; and he had a bit of trouble at first. It could have a little to do with the recession (eg, older married teachers now returning to teaching), but I think it is a minor thing. Here's what my nephew did: Went to every school within an hour's drive from his home. Asked to see the Principal or deputy, and took with him a copy of his resume. Mentioned that he was looking for casual work, with a view to a full time position (otherwise, they might think you are an itinerant). At first he got a day or two here and there; then a week or two; now he is working full time. Don't be afraid of travelling a bit; and because of your experience; make sure you approach schools in areas where there is a high non-anglo… [cont.]

How do you make casual sex not cause pain?
Q. While I would love nothing more than a happy healthy long term relationship, such has yet to happen so Ive just been settling for the casual scene. Its better than nothing, but the problem is I start liking the person and theyre never cool with that. Thats what always blows it.
Asked by spookey - Sat Jun 27 22:03:33 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well if you are with a person for casual sex, then the person is going to want only casual sex. And if you start to like them and want something more, well, it's your fault. That was not the agreement. If casual sex is hurting you, then don't do it anymore.

A. I enjoy shopping at Old Navy online. They have more sizes and a greater selection than in store. In addition, if something doesn't fit I can return it at the store so I don't have to mess around with the mail if I don't want to. Finally, as you may already know, there clothes are pretty cheap. Good luck!
