In grammar, the comparative is the form of an adjective or adverb which denotes the degree or grade by which a person, thing, or other entity has a property or quality greater or less in extent than that of another, and is used in this context with a subordinating conjunction, such as than, as...as, etc. StructureThe structure of a comparative in English consists normally of the positive form of the adjective or adverb, plus the suffix -er, or (in the case of polysyllabic words borrowed from foreign languages) the modifier "more" (or "less"/ "fewer") before the adjective or adverb. The form is usually completed by "than" and the noun which is being compared, e.g. "he is taller than his father is", or "the village is less picturesque than the town nearby". "Than" is used as a subordinating conjunction to introduce the second element of a comparative sentence while the first element expresses the difference ("our new house is larger than the old one"). There is less water in Saudi Arabia than there is in the United States; but however, there are fewer people in Canada than there are in California. Two-clause sentencesFor sentences with the two clauses other two-part comparative subordinating conjunctions may be used:

Like the IAS 16 mentioned above, requires that if an asset is revalued and there is a revaluation deficit, it has to be charged as an… [cont.] Answered by Sandy - Thu Jun 28 01:32:22 2007 Why is it harder to identify comparative advantages in trade in services than in trade in goods? Q. Why is the identification of comparative advantages in relation to trade in services regarded as more difficult to do, if compared to trade in goods? I don't get it. What makes it so hard to say that a country is better in a certain kind of service than other countries? Asked by Buergenthal - Tue Oct 24 10:05:06 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Many goods are homogeneous (sometimes even standardized). Services are usually not. With goods, you can precisely determine requirements. When you buy, for example, rolled steel, you can easily verify whether it meets certain grade or not. So you can directly compare steel made in Germany with steel made in Brazil and make purchasing decisions on price, provided that the steel meets your requirements. With services, no such grading exists in most cases. You may know that outsourcing technical support to India will cost you less than outsourcing it to Ireland. But even within India (or Ireland), there will be considerable variation in prices; some companies, for example, will require their employees to pass a region-neutral diction… [cont.] Answered by NC - Tue Oct 24 14:10:52 2006 how could you use comparative analysis to perform three year trend analysis?
